Location:

Behind the Nantahala Outdoor Center, about 5 minutes along a back country mountain road sets the large 1 bedroom romantic cabin getaway, October Sky. The roads to the cabin are well maintained and generally easily driven by most vehicles. The area around the cabin is minimally developed and retains a peaceful natural setting. White water rafting and excellent restaurants are just a short drive back down to the Nantahala Rafting center. Mountain biking at the famous Tsali recreation center is around 15 minutes away. Bryson City and the Smoky Mountain National Park are a scenic 25 minute highway drive away. The Cherokee Indian Reservation entrance to the national park is another 10 to 15 minutes past Bryson City.

Exterior:

As you pull onto the gravel drive and parking area, the large two level cabin October Sky stands above overlooking the mountain side. The parking area is wide enough to easily turn most vehicles around. The gravel of the parking area surrounds the cabin creating a clean yard. In the front yard, behind a split rail fence, wait two chairs for you to spend a quiet evening in front of a stone fire pit watching the stars fill the sky over the mountain view. The front porch is just one step up from the gravel yard. More chairs wait to provide a peaceful spot to watch the sun paint the sky and mountain sides with colors and shadows. At the far end of the front porch sets the best way to start off a great romantic getaway, an out door hot tub with scenic views during the day and star filled sky at night. The second level also has a deck with chairs.

Entry Level:

The front door is on the front porch, so you will have to turn your gaze away from the mountain view to enter the cabin facing forward. The natural colors and textures of the decor and real wood walls all combine into a peaceful comforting environment where relaxation can easily grow into romance. The first room you enter is the living room. Large windows, two levels high, fill the living room with the scenic sky and mountain views from the front porch. Leather sofas provide a comfortable spot to relax in front of a gas log fireplace or to catch up on your favorite show on the satellite TV .Through the living room to the back of the cabin is the full kitchen. With all cooking and dining utensils supplied, all you need to bring is some groceries and there will be no need to leave the comfort of the cabin to get something to eat. In fact you can plan a quiet romantic dinner at a quiet, private table in the cabin. The dining table sits to the left of the kitchen. There is even a dishwasher to help with cleaning up. A door to the left of the kitchen leads to the master bedroom. The same relaxing colors, natural element decor and scenic mountain views surround the comfortable king size bed. A gas log fireplace is at the foot of the bed to help with the romantic atmosphere. The master bedroom also has a full private bath.

Upper Level / Loft:

A spiral staircase in the living room leads up to the loft game area. To the right of the top of the stirs is a fooseball table. A futon with a bunk bed over it provide a seat to watch the game or extra sleeping space if you need. The loft area has sky wide views of the mountains. To the left of the stairs is a larger loft area. A full size billiard table and dart board are popular entertainment for an evening in. A large sofa offers seat to watch the fun or to admire the mountain views out the windows at the end of the loft. For a better view and some fresh air, a glass door opens to a balcony with chairs. A full bath is also on the upper level so you don't have to head down stairs and leave the fun.
